After the Earthquake

After the devastating 8.0 earthquake in Szechuan, China in 2008, Sheri Liao determined that rebuilding should happen in ecologically-sustainable ways — and committed herself to village life in order to help bring it about. She describes her vision for communities that thrive in broadly ecological ways as, “Loho communities.”  This 4 minute film highlights some of her work.

Liao is one of the key plenary speakers at the SEIZING AN ALTERNATIVE conference on the Pomona College campus in Claremont, CA June 4-7. She joins Bill McKibben, Vandana Shiva, John B. Cobb, Jr., Wes Jackson, Herman Daly, and many others devoted to the task of rethinking civilization from the ground up.
