“The Misuse of Science in the Global Crisis”
Lecturer: Vandana Shiva
Vandana Shiva is a world-renowned environmental leader and recipient of the 1993 Alternative Nobel Peace Prize (the Right Livelihood Award) and the author of several bestselling books. Activist and scientist, Shiva leads, with Ralph Nader and Jeremy Rifkin, the International Forum on Globalization. Before becoming an activist, Shiva was one of India’s leading physicists.
As a physicist, she has long understood that science is being used in the service of unsustainable practices. She has helped thoughtful people everywhere to understand what “development” has done to women and to the poor. She is a leading world figure calling for redirecting policies and practices.
“In nature’s economy the currency is not money, it is life.”– Vandana Shiva
Postings from Seizing an Alternative
- Vandana Shiva, “SOIL, PAPERED OVER” reprinted from The Asian Age and based on Dr. Shiva’s presentation at the SEIZING AN ALTERNATIVE conference on the mis-use of science.
Saving our species from extinction should go hand in hand with saving humanity from immiseration. No one has a more comprehensive and realistic understanding of the destructive character of the policies that have dominated our planet, especially in the last half century, than Vandana Shiva.
