California State University, Long Beach presents
Voyage to Sustainability and Shoreline Safari
Building on the legacy of the Queen Mary ocean liner to educate and inspire for sustainability and using augmented reality to transform Shoreline Village into an interactive aquatic experience.
The project is an interactive learning exhibition titled “Voyage to Sustainability” to be placed on the iconic Queen Mary shoreliner coupled with Augmented Reality (AR) educational experiences featuring local marine life and coastal ecosystems. While the vessel is a local attraction and tourist destination, very little is known by Long Beach residents or tourists about sustainability efforts and goals related to the ship and surrounding area. The project addresses this challenge in a twofold way: by offering 1) an interactive exhibition to be placed on the ship itself to supplement the existing Steam and Steel tour with sustainability-related educational content, and 2) to offer virtual Shoreline Village encounters with local flora and fauna, sharing insights and habitat details, and offering conservation tips for environmental awareness.
