PANDO DAYS is a four-part series of events spread over six-months that pull together the most creative people in Los Angeles County to invent ingenious new initiatives to remake the region into the model of resiliency envisioned by the County’s new, groundbreaking sustainability plan. PANDO DAYS is a collaboration with eleven art and design colleges throughout the southland and produced in association with the Chief Sustainability Officers Strategic Taskforce. PANDO DAYS is made possible in part by the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, Second Home, and the Pando Accelerator at Maryknoll Monrovia.

PANDO DAYS gather together 100 of LA’s most creative and passionate residents, including its artists, designers, scientists, philosophers, writers, businesspeople, policy wonks, doers and makers to brainstorm new initiatives and campaigns, prototype the best ideas, and test them in the real world with the aim of launching the most effective.

After six months, we celebrate what’s been done. And then gear up to do it all over again. And again.

So that by the time of the Olympic Games in 2028, we’ve changed the face of Los Angeles for the better and for a more resilient future.

Join LA’s artists, designers, scientists, philosophers, writers, businesspeople, policy wonks, doers and makers, to share your hopes for a resilient southland and ideas for getting there.

Facilitated by legendary designer John Bielenberg in collaboration with design leads from the County’s art and design schools, the launch event is designed to generate a virtual storm of ideas with the potential to change the game.

We then feed the most inventive and inspirational ideas into the Blitz the following week, where art and design school teams begin the process of planning prototypes that will make a more resilient future.

Passionate ideas born from the launch are taken up one week later at the PANDO DAYS BLITZ: an intensive day-long brainstorming opportunity where teams of creative people turn public aspirations for resiliency into actionable plans that can be realized over the next six months.

The BLITZ involves eleven teams, one team from each of the participating schools, each focused on a sustainability theme.

By the end of the day, teams deliver plans for moving a single project forward – whether it means launching an initiative that’s wholly new or building on work that’s already underway.

This is the maker phase, where prototypes that have been planned over the day-long Blitz get hammered together into something real –from campaigns and initiatives to physical objects. The six-month period we’ve allocated allows for design faults to show up, plans to be redrawn, and projects readied for a test drive in the spring.

We help design school leads spur project acceleration with dedicated lab space, material support, and additional talent needed to push initiatives ahead.

It’s an opportunity for focused student-professional collaboration, with a prototype deliverable for the future of an LA we’re passionate about.

The FESTIVAL is all about showcasing ingenious initiatives for sustaining LA. We highlight the projects developed over the past six months along with other initiatives that deserve special recognition.

PANDO DAYS FESTIVAL brings together leaders in the creative world, academia, government, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, media, and social and environmental NGOs to celebrate the best of new ideas in building a more awesome, more resilient LA County and assess the work that may be worth taking on a longer ride.

At the end of it all, we party!
